Tory Penny Mordaunt claimed that strikes being in any way helpful for workers is a “myth,” during an interview at the end of Feb, but that has been dismantled by lawyer Peter Stefanovic.

Penny Mordaunt has said it was a “myth” that going on strike helps workers.

She said that encouraging people to take industrial action was “political cynicism”.

Speaking to Sky News’ Sophy Ridge On Sunday programme, Mordaunt said handing out pay rises risked increased inflation.

“I think it is political cynicism of the worst kind to encourage strikes,” Mordaunt said.

“The only people that benefit from strikes are the Labour Party. Striking workers don’t benefit from strikes.

“It’s a myth that strikes are helpful. They’re not. They exacerbate financial problems for the very people going out on strike. It’s not good for the country and I’d encourage people not to do it.”

NHS consultants

It comes as consultants in England are ready to strike after a consultative ballot by the British Medical Association (BMA) showed support for industrial action.

The union says consultants have seen pay cuts of 35% since 2008 once inflation is taken into account.

The BMA is now warning it will proceed to a formal ballot unless the government acts before 3 April.

Peter has totally ripped the striking ‘myth’ argument to shreds in this new video.

He shared the video and wrote: ““Striking workers do not benefit from strikes” says Government Pay rises won by unions: Airport staff at Luton won 28% Liverpool dockers won 18.5% Cleaners & porters at Croydon University Hospital won 24% Hospitality workers in Sheffield won 44%”

Reactions

1.

The reason we have a 'weekend' is because of the unions.

They also fought for and won many other things, such as, sick pay, holidays, maternity leave, etc.

Unions have also reduced inequality – but that is now going up under the Tories – it always does!

2.

You mean the money doesn’t go to the “Greedy Union Bosses”?

I’m sure the #ToryCriminals were trying to imply that when they call a strike all the benefits won go direct to Mick Lynch

3.

Or this?

Had it not been for trade unions, workers would still be treated like medieval peasants.
