Nadine Dorries is still an MP, yep that’s right, after she said she was resigning over two months two months ago. Now an old Nadine Dorries speech has gone viral, and it smashed the irony-meter.

She has not spoken in the Commons since July 2022 and last voted in April.

It has been six months from her last vote in Parliament on 26 October.

It comes as Chris Bryant is trying to find a way to push Dorries out of office.

He told BBC Breakfast: “I don’t know what you think about the Nadine Dorries thing. I just don’t think in an ordinary line of work, if you missed coming in for 6 months, that you’d still be paid, because if you don’t turn up for 6 months as a councillor, you’re out.”

Nadine Dorries speech

Back in 2014, Dorries made a speech in the House of Commons about MPs respecting their constituency.

She said: “Where MPs do fall down is where they ignore their constituents.”

Dorries then said: “They also know that I will go the extra mile. I don’t do surgeries once a month, I do them, most times, every week.

“They know I don’t get involved in grubby games or political games in parliament. They know I represent them.

“I put my constituency before my party.”

Fast forward to modern times and she went on I’m a Celebrity while she should have been working, and now is refusing to stand down.

Best For Britian shared the video and wrote: “2014 Nadine Dorries needs to have a word with 2023 Nadine Dorries. Here she is, arguing that constituents should have “more democratic control” over recalling their MP, saying “where MPs fall down is when they ignore their constituents”. Would be terrible if this went viral.”
