Cheese and milk help push food prices up at fastest rate for 45 years, which is pushing more and more people into poverty and using food banks.

Soaring prices for cheese, milk and bread meant the cost of living rose more than expected last month.

Inflation, which measures the rate of price rises, fell to 10.1% in the year to March from 10.4% in February.

Grant Fitzner, chief economist for the Office for National Statistics said globally food prices were falling, but that had not yet led to price cuts in the UK.

“There’s been some strong upward movement in food prices and you would expect to see that reflected in supermarkets but we’re not there yet,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme.

One might wonder why?

So where does Mogg come into this, well a split video tweet has made multi-millionaire Brexiter Jacob Rees-Mogg look like a complete fool.

Sad thing is the joke is on us all.

One video from the BBC tells viewers about the food price inflation almost hitting 20%. On the right in Jacob Rees-Mogg telling the BBC that “The benefits of leaving the European Union mean cheaper food, clothing & footwear.”

This is worth a watch…

Jo Coburn – Jacob Rees-Mogg promised cheaper food after brexit?

Tim Loughton(Tory MP) – You'll have to ask him why he said that… we have just signed a big trade deal with CPTPP.

Stella Creasey – That will add 0.08% to the economy, that won't help with the cost of living. pic.twitter.com/oFcfyo3nph
