The Gary Lineker row is still the only show in town, especially if you watched the silent 20 min Match of the Day episode on Saturday night.
So what is the new right-wing smear on Lineker, which has now been expanded to anyone who thinks people in the channel should be regarded as humans?
It is unhinged, kind of comment that should get you sacked from the BBC maybe?
Left-wing
Well, Peter Hitchens, for it is he, who tweeted a new opinion piece and wrote: “Nobody seems to know one crucial fact. The Nazis were very Left-wing. They hated Christianity and deliberately set children against their parents. They imposed penal taxes on the middle class and attracted Communists to their ranks.
“Like all bad Left-wing causes, they were very popular with students. If you take the forest path up from the pretty university town of Heidelberg, you will find, half lost among the trees, a large, disused Nazi amphitheatre where the students used to hold torchlight rallies and sing their hateful songs.”
This is a new level of madness in the row over Nazis, Nazi slurs (whatever that means) and the collective breakdown at the BBC management level.
In case you think Peter has a point here is Full Fact’s take on the issue: “While their name did include the word “socialist”, their policies and treatment of left-wing opponents show they were not socialists in any meaningful sense.”
