A Coventry chef, Jade Douglas, is on a mission to make Christmas special for children in end-of-life care at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) by raising funds to buy them presents. With a goal of £2,000, Jade hopes to bring a “last smile” to children facing their final Christmas.

Jade, who previously raised £3,400 in 2020 to buy iPads for Covid patients, decided to focus her efforts this year on the children’s ward at UHCW. Inspired by her own healthy daughter, Jade felt compelled to help families going through unimaginable hardship.

“I’ve got a young, healthy daughter and thought to myself how fortunate I am, so I decided to help those in need,” Jade said. She has already raised £410 and is working closely with the hospital to ensure the funds go toward gifts that will brighten the children’s holidays.

In addition to donations, local support has been pouring in, including from a nearby dance school that plans to put on a show for the children at the hospital. “Every little helps to make this Christmas as special as it can be for these children, as it may be their last one,” Jade added.

Jade’s fundraising efforts have been met with an outpouring of admiration from the community. One donor, Niall, wrote: “Proud of you always. Always putting other people before yourself.” Another supporter, Lorraine, added: “Always thinking of others. So proud of you. Let’s bring those smiles to those faces.”

To contribute to Jade’s cause and help make Christmas a little brighter for the children at UHCW, donations can be made via her JustGiving page.
