A Coventry-raised dance and yoga teacher is feared to be among the victims of a devastating Air India plane crash, which killed hundreds just minutes after take-off.
Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, who attended Pattison College in Coventry, was reportedly on board Flight 171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport, which went down with more than 240 passengers on board.
✈️ Tragedy strikes shortly after take-off
The Boeing 787 aircraft crashed shortly after leaving India, with authorities now working to determine the cause of the disaster.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) confirmed that UK officials are being sent to India to assist with the investigation.
🌟 From DanceX to The Wellness Foundry
Jamie was known to many for his appearance on the BBC One show DanceX in 2013, where he performed as one half of a dance duo.
Originally from Birmingham, Jamie later moved to Coventry to study performing arts, before joining a boy band called Jump The Lights. He then went on to become a popular yoga and dance teacher.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he co-founded The Wellness Foundry in London with his husband, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, who is also feared to have been on board.
💬 Final video before flight
Just hours before the crash, the couple posted a short video to Instagram from the airport.
“We are in the airport, just boarding. Goodbye India,” said Fiongal.
Jamie added:
“Goodbye India, ten-hour flight back to England.”
In a light-hearted moment, Fiongal smiled and said:
“We’re going back happily, happily, happily calm.”
Those words now carry heartbreaking weight, as tributes flood in across social media for the much-loved pair.
