A dramatic collision left a marked police vehicle badly damaged after it ploughed into a lamppost on Coventry’s Stoney Stanton Road at around 3 am on Sunday, 25 May. Emergency crews raced to the scene to free the officers and secure the area.
🔥 Firefighters battle the wreckage
Crew Commander Atkins of Coventry Fire Station told CoventryLive:
“We sent trucks and ten firefighters to a road traffic collision involving a police car on the Stoney Stanton Road at about 3 am.”
Firefighters worked swiftly to make the car safe, using cutting equipment to open doors and check for fuel leaks. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries to the officers, though one was treated for minor cuts and shock.
💡 Lamppost and debris scatter
The impact snapped the lamppost at its base, sending shattered concrete and wiring across the carriageway. Bricks and rubble littered the adjacent retail‐access roundabout. It’s unclear whether the dislodged bricks came from this crash or an earlier incident.
🚧 Road closures and cordons
Police tape now seals off Bridge Street opposite the crash site. Investigators from West Midlands Police’s traffic unit are piecing together what happened. They’ve yet to explain why Bridge Street remains closed, though it may be to preserve evidence.
