📚 The Real History of Arabic Numerals

Readers were quick to add context, with one note explaining: “The digits 0–9 that we use today are called Arabic numerals because they were introduced to Europe through Arabic mathematicians during the Middle Ages.”

Britannica.com backed this up, describing them as a set of 10 symbols that revolutionised maths in the 12th century, helping pave the way for modern algebra.

🌊 Trump Stirs the Pot

Meanwhile, this comes as Donald Trump is reportedly planning to announce on his trip to Saudi Arabia that the US will now refer to the Arabian Gulf or the Gulf of Arabia rather than the Persian Gulf.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi fired back, saying: “The name Persian Gulf, like many geographical designations, is deeply rooted in human history… Any shortsighted step in this connection will have no validity or legal or geographical effect.”

Araghchi added that such a move would only provoke “the wrath of all Iranians” worldwide.
