Lady Mone criticised the inquiry’s decision to hold “closed door sessions” on the PPE procurement process, which is due to begin next week.

The Covid Inquiry will examine UK Government decisions regarding the purchase of PPE during the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple claimed they were the targets of a “politically motivated witch hunt” after the inquiry’s chairwoman, Baroness Hallett, refused their application to be made “core participants”.

The Tory peer, 52, and Mr Barrowman, 59, have faced controversy over the “VIP lane” contracts granted to some suppliers during the coronavirus pandemic.

PPE Medpro, a consortium led by Mr Barrowman, was awarded government contracts worth more than £200m to supply personal protective equipment after Lady Mone recommended it to ministers.

In a social media post, Baroness Mone said she did not realise that the company would be “specifically profiled” by the inquiry until the end of February.

“Until then, it was understood that discussions were general, covering overall PPE procurement, not targeting any individual entity,” she added.

It has been over 14 months since I last commented on social media. However, the recent actions of the COVID Inquiry and the Establishment have compelled my husband, Doug, and I to issue a joint statement. pic.twitter.com/wAl018q1Rj

Wait what – the covert ops thieves calling for transparency😂 How about you simply
pay back the £100m you stole Michelle and beg for a non custodial.

“The real scandal is not PPE Medpro” says the couple that pocketed £60m profit from the public purse during the biggest health crises in a century.

Whoever is doing your tone-deaf PR clearly hates you. https://t.co/NvaxyGrUpq

3.

You denied any involvement in Medpro. Why do you think anyone cares what you say or think? Pay the taxpayers money back, drop the poor me act & drop the title of 'Lady' – you ain't no lady, lady.

"From the beginning we declared our interest in PPE Medro"

And yet your lawyer said "any suggestion of an association between Mone and PPE Medpro would be inaccurate, misleading and defamatory" pic.twitter.com/3ASoPfK9SF

5.

@MichelleMone simple question for either yourself or Doug; Which PPE Medpro invoiced the UK Government for the PPE – the UK registered business, or, the Isle of Man registered business?
