Richard Tice’s social care and benefits plan is slammed

"Reform will wreck care for the elderly and vulnerable," said one person in response.

The government’s announcement of sweeping new restrictions on overseas care worker visas has sparked fierce backlash and risking pushing the UK’s fragile care system to the brink of collapse.

Care homes will no longer be allowed to recruit staff from abroad, a sector that has long relied on foreign workers to plug chronic staff shortages.

Applications for the health and care worker visa have already plunged by 70 per cent in a year, from 129,000 to just 26,000, while more than 100,000 vacancies remain across England’s care sector.

International recruits were also significantly less likely to take days off sick and more likely to have met the care certificate standards, which state basic expectations of care workers, than British staff, according to Skills for Care research.

In response, Richard Tice has a plan.

LBC shared the clip. ‘You can’t make a lifestyle choice to sit on your backside and watch telly whilst people pay your benefits.’ @TiceRichard wants people out of work to train in social care, or it’s ‘end of benefits.’

Reactions

1.

Tice has no concept of care work, the physical demands, the needs, the fact that it does not suit many for all of the right reasons.
Force people in to it you do those who need care a disservice
In a Reform dictatorship you will retrain for service in care or lose your benefits…

And if they aren't suited to work in Social Care?? Shall we saddle the most vulnerable in society with them anyway?

Social Care is a vocation, there’s a distinction between that, and a “Job” (such as shop work etc…)

NB: nothing wrong with shop work, it was simply an example

Reform will wreck care for the elderly and vulnerable. Don’t be old or sick under Reform. https://t.co/mpfGsguIbj

Please explain how as a disabled person I work in social care? Absolute fucking fool.

If I’m being honest I probably need some social care but none of us can get anything so there’s 2 disabled people and a pensioner with cancer all caring for each other here. https://t.co/SBRWXtBpVO

Here an idea for Dicky: everyone moaning that immigration is too high should demonstrate their patriotism and go work in social care.

So it turns out that one of the benefits of Brexit is to illegally force people into care work. 😳 #r4today https://t.co/78DsGQNLx3

9.

Fuck no. You need people working in social care that want to do it, not because they're forced to. It's a demanding job that requires, among other things, a lot of patience and compassion. You don't want people doing it just to pick up a paycheck looking after vulnerable people. https://t.co/Xm4RNgJncq

How would that work for disabled people? https://t.co/yAGz9gXjIl
