Right-wing commentator, aAnn Coulter has joined the MAGA voices that defended President Donald Trump accepting a Qatari Boeing from the royal family and said the Statue of Liberty was also a gift to the US, accepted by then-president Grover Cleveland.
The Qatari royal family plans to give the luxury Boeing 747-8, estimated to be worth $400m (£300m), to the US Department of Defence to be used as part of a fleet of planes dubbed Air Force One.
Trump’s opponents in the Democratic Party slammed the president after he indicated he would accept a luxury jet from the Qatari royal family.
More noteworthy – and potentially more troubling for the president – is that some of his strongest supporters also have serious reservations about the deal, even as it’s yet to be finalised.
Trump trip
Today has been another full day on US President Donald Trump’s tour of the Middle East.
It began in Riyadh with Trump saying he wanted to make a deal with Iran, before meeting the new leader of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa. A short flight on Air Force One then whisked him over to Doha where he signed financial and arms deals worth billions of dollars with the Emir of Qatar.
Tomorrow’s exact plans remain up in the air, but on Friday, he is due to visit Abu Dhabi.
Even before Air Force One touched down in the Qatari capital of Doha, the pageantry of the visit — Trump’s first international tour of his second term — was on full display.
As he entered Qatar’s airspace, White House Communications Adviser Margo Martin posted video online of F-15 fighter jets on either side of Air Force One, “providing honorary escort” to the president.
