Same old people moaning about RNLI doing their jobs – reactions

The RNLI are out risking their lives to save lives, but that seems to anger people.

It was current Ukip leader Neil Hamilton’s turn to moan about it.

He wrote a tweet fuming at the “madness” he believed is unfolding by RNLI crews saving lives.

He penned: “The RNLI is a charity. The public donates to it so that it can help with accidents at sea.

“The public does not donate so that it can rescue those who deliberately put themselves at risk in unseaworthy vessels. This madness has gone on for far too long.”

However, before we see what people had to say about his comments, please read this report (in tweet below) that actually blames the crisis in the Channel on Brexit.

The public very well know that the RNLI save asylum seekers and they carry on funding them.

In fact 2022 saw a record year of funding for the RNLI demonstrating that they actively support this activity.

I’m afraid that you don’t get to tell the RNLI what to do Mr Hamilton.

Their very raison d'etre is to rescue those in danger at sea, Hamilton. What do you want them to do? Leave them to drown? Where's your humanity?

I am the public and I donate so that they do what they have always done – rescued anyone in difficulty without discrimination.

5.

Nope. If you went out to sea in a canoe, then got into difficulty, they’d come and rescue you. Same with the emergency services. None of them pass judgement on the scene, just save lives.

You don’t know why the public donates so stop pretending you speak for others.

The RNLI is amazing. Unpaid volunteers risking their lives to help strangers. They are not politicians, they are not border force, they are heroes.

Just to clarify Neil, are you suggesting they should let certain people drown? Because that appears to be the upshot of what you are saying. https://t.co/xcEvhQ3Bve

There is this…

Keep tweeting this Neil – it increases donations to the RNLI.https://t.co/pOhJxYv0Kf
