Foreign Secretary James Cleverly was out and about doing the media rounds today. He made a strange comment about the coronation.

He was also caught out over comments about refugees, more of that later on.

First off he told viewers that swearing allegiance to the King was somehow egalitarian.

I mean you have to give him credit for trying to spin it that way, it is just complete nonsense, of course.

There's something even more progressive than the people swearing allegiance to an impotent monarchy…

It's the people NOT swearing allegiance to an impotent monarchy.

Refugees

Oh while we are on the subject of James Cleverly, he was called out as a nimby by Kay Burley for not wanting one of Suella Braverman’s refugee facilities in his own back yard.

It comes as Home Secretary Suella Braverman has made assurances that plans to house around 2,000 migrants at RAF Scampton will go ahead.

Speaking to BBC reporters at the end of April, Braverman said it was “unacceptable” that 40,000 asylum seekers were being housed in UK hotels at a cost of more than £6 million a day.

He said: “Of course, no-one would want a facility like that in their constituency … but the point I’m saying is that the legislation we are putting through is to reduce the need for facilities like that.”

“The bottom line is if the decision is made that that is where this site needs to be – and it’s not a decision for me to make exclusively – but if that is the decision that’s made, I want to make sure it works effectively, properly and our wider immigration system is fit for purpose.”
