Donald Trump is on a tour of the Middle East. The American leader visited Sausi Arabia dedicated much of his speech to praising the Saudi Kingdom, with which he has enjoyed warm relations for years, and where he made his first state visit in 2017 during his initial White House term.
“Riyadh is becoming not just a seat of government but a major business, cultural and high-tech capital of the entire world,” Trump said.
The international trip has come even as a backlash back home over Qatar’s proposed gift of a $400m luxury plane threatened to overshadow his “historic” tour of the Middle East.
Ben Shapiro, the prominent rightwing commentator, led the charge on his daily podcast. “President Trump promised to drain the swamp – this is not, in fact, draining the swamp,” he said.
The CEOs of several US companies went along as part of the push to secure new contracts for the US, including the heads of Amazon, Boeing, Google and Halliburton and Elon Musk was there, but that wasn’t weird, that was always going to happen.
