U.S. President Donald Trump’s new interview with Time magazine, released last Friday, touched on topics ranging from his tariff policy to foreign wars to the rule of law in America.
Trump was named Time’s Person of the Year in December, after the contentious election campaign, two assassination attempts and the criminal cases against him.
The interview was checking in with the president after the 100th day of his second term. He defended his tariff plans by claiming inflation is going down and asserting that Chinese president Xi Jinping has tried to call him to negotiate. China has denied this.
Crimea
Donald Trump has said he thinks Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to give up Crimea, despite his Ukrainian counterpart’s previous assertions about Black Sea peninsula that was annexed by Russia in 2014.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday a day after meeting with Zelenskyy at the Vatican, Trump said “Oh, I think so,” in response to a question on whether he thought Zelenskyy was ready to “give up” the territory.
Zelenskyy on Friday insisted the territory was the “property of the Ukrainian people”. He did not immediately respond to Trump’s latest comments.
Deals?
When Time asked about White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro’s insistence that Trump would close 90 deals in 90 days, he claimed the US had done a lot more than that.
Trump told Time Magazine that he’s done deals with 200 of the other 194 countries in the world. Just as an FYI The UN recognises 195 countries.
There is an explanation of the ‘200 deals’ of sorts…
