Beloved Scottish comedian Janey Godley has revealed she is receiving end-of-life care after her ovarian cancer returned. In an emotional video shared on social media, the 63-year-old from Glasgow expressed her gratitude to the NHS, family, and friends for the support she has received during her battle with the disease.

Godley, who gained viral fame during the pandemic for her humorous dubbed videos of Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid briefings, shared the devastating news with her followers. Speaking candidly from her hospital bed, she said, “It is devastating news – but we all come to an end sometime.” The comedian explained she is now receiving palliative care in a hospital and will soon be transferred to a hospice.

Last week, Godley had to cancel her much-anticipated Why Is She Still Here? tour after being advised by doctors to focus on her health. She had been planning to return to the stage this autumn, but her recent hospitalisation forced her to make the difficult decision to step back from performing.

A Journey With Cancer

Godley was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2021. She underwent treatment and was given the all-clear in 2022. However, a later scan revealed that the cancer had returned, and complications have since arisen.

In a statement released by her team, it was confirmed that her cancer has advanced to stage four, and her doctors have advised her to stop work for the foreseeable future. “Janey has been living with stage four ovarian cancer for the past few years,” the statement read. “The treatment from the wonderful Scottish NHS has kept the disease at bay, but sadly in the last few weeks the cancer has returned, and there have been added complications.”

The news comes as a shock to her fans, many of whom were looking forward to her upcoming performances. Godley expressed her sadness at having to cancel her shows, saying she is “devastated to let down” her loyal audience and the venues she has performed at over the years.
