Robert Jenrick has called on Sir Keir Starmer to sack Attorney General Lord Richard Hermer. He did so in a new video that’s ruffled plenty of feathers.Robert Jenrick is back in the spotlight, this time demanding that Sir Keir Starmer sack Attorney General Lord Richard Hermer. His latest video has ruffled more than a few political feathers — and it’s worth a watch.
🤦♂️ Hermer’s infamous comparison
At a Royal United Services Institute event, Lord Hermer took things a tad too far. He likened calls to ditch international treaties (think quitting the European Convention on Human Rights) to “realist” jurists in 1930s Germany, claiming they believed “state power is all that counts, not law.” He added that because of what followed in 1933, well-meaning folks then “rebuilt and transformed” international and constitutional law.
Cue collective jaw-drop. Social media promptly exploded, with Kemi Badenoch accusing him of “starting from a position of self-loathing, where Britain is always wrong and everyone else is right.” Nigel Farage demanded an apology faster than you can say “Carl Schmitt.”
🎬 Jenrick’s viral takedown
Fresh from his Stratford Station fare-dodger showdown, Jenrick has set his sights on Lord Hermer. In a clip that’s racked up over 1.5 million views in 24 hours, he fired off:
“Gerry Adams. Shamima Begum. Osama bin Laden’s right-hand man. Lord Hermer has spent much of his life defending those who hate Britain. Why on earth did Starmer hand-pick him to be Attorney General?”
He didn’t stop there:
“Hermer also represented veterans at Porton Down and soldiers caught up in friendly fire. He spent much of his life suing the British Government. Now he’s the PM’s top legal official, advising the Government. More than any prior AG, he’s riddled with potential conflicts of interest.”
If you’re thinking, “Ouch,” you’re not alone.
📢 Backlash and banter
Naturally, some commenters pointed out that representing unpopular clients doesn’t automatically brand you “anti-British.” Others accused Jenrick of seizing a juicy political moment — or, as one wag put it, “using Lord Hermer as a punching bag for political points.”
Jenrick’s critics also remind us that Hermer promptly apologised, calling his analogy “clumsy.” But hey, in politics, you’re forgiven only as long as the next scandal hasn’t broken yet.y one “hates Britain.” They also questioned whether Jenrick was acting out of political opportunism.
