A Tory MP Mel Stride has been questioned over whether struggling mums should be prosecuted by the police service if caught shoplifting baby formula, to ensure their child is fed.

Stride faced a harsh grilling from Sky’s Kay Burley.

The Tory MP maintained that ‘shoplifting is wrong’.

“All theft is wrong, of course I would never justify that”, he said.

Mel stride covid

Mel Stride has also been speaking out about the Covid inquiry. He said documents will only be disclosed to the Covid-19 inquiry “where it is appropriate,” reports The Independent.

Mr Stride told Sky News “we absolutely intend to continue to be absolutely transparent and candid” and the Government had already provided “55,000 documents, eight witness statements and corporate witness statements” to the inquiry.

He then said: “I’m absolutely certain and confident that the Cabinet Office will be engaged in this in exactly the right kind of way, and in the kind of spirit that I’ve just outlined and making sure that we are absolutely robustly transparent where it is appropriate to be so.

“I think that’s an important qualification, so that the inquiry has all the information that it is right for it to have.”

The clock is ticking for the government to either release Boris Johnson’s unredacted messages and diaries to the Covid-19 inquiry by 4pm today or face a legal dispute.

However, yesterday Boris Johnson that the material has been handed over to the government.
