Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t miss a beat when a “Trump country” banner was flown over her latest rally. The progressive congresswoman, alongside Bernie Sanders, was in deep-red territory again, showing the strength of their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.
✊ A Packed House in ‘Trump Country’
The duo has been making waves across the country, attracting massive crowds in traditionally conservative states. In recent days, they’ve filled arenas in places like Idaho and California, proving that progressive voices are alive and well in Trump’s strongholds.
The crowd at Folsom Lake College’s athletic track in California, located within Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley’s district, was no exception. The venue was packed with over 30,000 people, ready to hear Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez call out the growing inequality and authoritarianism under Trump’s influence.
✈️ The Banner That Backfired
Before the rally kicked off, a small plane flew overhead with a banner that read, “Folsom is Trump Country.” Ocasio-Cortez wasted no time addressing it, responding with a powerful line that resonated with the crowd.
“I heard that someone started flying a plane with a banner that said, ‘This is Trump country,’” she said, prompting boos from the crowd. “It sure don’t look like it today. I don’t think this is Trump country. I think this is our country.”
💪 Bernie Sanders Joins In
Sanders, ever the firebrand, echoed Ocasio-Cortez’s sentiment, highlighting the massive turnout at their rallies, even in some of the most conservative states.
“We are seeing unbelievable turnouts,” Sanders said. “We were in Idaho — Idaho! — we had 12,000 people coming out in Idaho, the most conservative state in the country. We had 20,000 people in Salt Lake City, a Republican state.”
He added, “I think what the American people — Republicans, independents, Democrats — are saying is, ‘Sorry, Mr. Trump, we don’t want your oligarchy. Sorry, Mr. Trump, too many men and women have fought and died to defend democracy. You’re not going to take us into authoritarianism.’”
🚗 What’s Next for AOC and Sanders?
Next stop: Missoula, Montana. The state has backed Trump in the last three elections, but Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez are ready to take their fight to more “Trump country” and continue to push their progressive agenda. The crowds are growing, and their message is clear – democracy and equality are worth fighting for.
