Jeremy Corbyn says a new political force is on the way – and Zarah Sultana will help lead it.

🔔 ‘Real change is coming’

Jeremy Corbyn has confirmed plans to help build a new left-wing party, breaking his silence following Zarah Sultana’s dramatic resignation from Labour.

The Islington North MP declared:

“Real change is coming… Our country needs to change direction, now.”
“Together, we can create something that is desperately missing from our broken political system: hope.”

The government is attempting to hide the truth about Gaza. It will not succeed.

His intervention comes just a day after Sultana revealed she will co-lead the founding of a new political party, describing Labour as having “completely failed to improve people’s lives”.

🧱 ‘Democratic foundations’ of new movement

Corbyn said the “democratic foundations of a new kind of political party” are already being laid and that he is in talks with “all communities” to create a genuine alternative to the status quo.

While no official name has been revealed, he made it clear the plan is to create a movement that challenges poverty, inequality, and “a foreign policy based on war”.

✊ Sultana: ‘We’re not taking this anymore’

Sultana, who lost the Labour whip last year after backing a vote to scrap the two-child benefit cap, said:

“We’re not an island of strangers, we’re an island that’s suffering.”
“Billionaires already have three parties fighting for them. It’s time the rest of us had one.”

The Coventry South MP promised that she and Corbyn would build a party with other independents, campaigners and activists across the UK.

Her statement hit out at the rising cost of living, inequality, and what she called “forever wars”, saying the public deserve homes and lives they can actually afford.

Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country.

🗳️ A challenge from the left

Corbyn previously hinted at plans for a new party on ITV’s Peston programme, but his official statement today confirms he’s fully on board.

While some reports claimed he was blindsided by Sultana’s announcement, his message on Friday suggests he’s firmly back in organiser mode.

With Labour under Starmer facing criticism from its left flank – and Reform UK gaining traction on the right – the launch of a new socialist party could shake things up ahead of 2029.
