Donald Trump’s NATO comment & Ukraine confusion are two EPIC fails – reactions

Another day, another set of Donald Trump calamities.

First off, Donald Trump complained that Nato would never help the US.

He said: “If the US was in trouble and we called them… do you think they’re gonna come and protect us? They are supposed to. I’m not so sure.”

A Factual Error & Missing Context on X read: “NATO’s Article 5 on collective defense has been invoked once in the alliance’s history by the United States in response to 9/11. At that time NATO had 18 members, all which supported the US in Afghanistan with their militaries.”

🚨🚨THIS IS INSANE: Donald Trump, the sitting President of the United States, questions NATO's commitment to America, despite the fact that NATO came to our aid when Article 5 was invoked after 9/11. Make sure everyone sees this.pic.twitter.com/jDXMFMVzZ0

In response, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey slammed President Trump’s remarks, describing them as “every bit as insulting as JD Vance’s comments earlier this week”.

Sir Ed added: “Trump looks increasingly like an unreliable ally, and the government urgently needs a plan B”.

Who wants to tell him about Iraq and Afghanistan?

Let alone that 911 was the only time article 5 has ever been invoked

BREAKING: Trump ignorantly attacks NATO:

Yeah, remember that time you bragged about your building being the tallest in downtown Manhattan because the two taller ones had just been taken down by terrorists?
You know who came to help us when you didn’t do shit?

An attack on one is an attack on all. The only time NATO’s Article 5 was activated was following the devastating attacks on September 11th and our allies answered that call. pic.twitter.com/0eUZiyfMsW

At least 1160 soldiers from all over the world – most of them från NATO countries – died in Afghanistan fighting a war beside you.

After you invoked NATOs article 5. This is just the top of the list over international casualties.

Ukrainians

Next up, a reporter asked Trump if the rumours he is planning to revoke the TPS (Temporary Protective Status) status of Ukrainians in the US could happen.

Trump looked very confused and replied saying: “GPS.” You get the feeling he doesn’t know what TPS means.

Reuters reported had earlier that the Trump administration planned to revoke protections for roughly 240,000 Ukrainians who had fled to the United States following Russia’s 2022 invasion. The move would lay the groundwork for those individuals to be deported.

In January Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem suspended TPS protections to roughly 600,000 Venezuelans living in the U.S. before taking a similar move for some 520,000 Haitians.

REPORTER: Are you considering revoking the TPS status for the more than 20,000 Ukrainians who live here in the US?

TRUMP: What are you saying?

REPORTER: TPS status.

And people were quick to comment on this new fail.
