Donald Trump has a new portrait hanging in the Colorado State Capitol — but if you thought that would settle the drama, think again.
The updated painting replaces an older version the former president reportedly moaned about earlier this year, claiming it had been “purposefully distorted.” His complaints clearly struck a chord, because lawmakers swiftly agreed to take the old one down.
🎨 ‘No distortion,’ says artist — but Trump wasn’t buying it
The original portrait, painted by Sarah Boardman and hanging proudly since 2018, was apparently not to Trump’s taste. Boardman insisted she had painted him “accurately, without political bias or caricature.”
Didn’t matter. The replacement — painted by Tempe-based artist Vanessa Horabuena and donated by the White House — went up this week.
🤔 So… who does it look like?
Online critics weren’t exactly thrilled. Some compared the new version to Dateline’s Keith Morrison, while the old one was said to resemble JD Vance with a hint of guyliner. Either way, no one seemed convinced either portrait actually resembled Trump.
Twitter/X user @iamgabesanchez joked:
“The Colorado State Capitol replaced Trump’s portrait…with another terrible Trump portrait. Bold choice.”
Another commenter, @lois_left, asked:
“Not really an upgrade from the abomination they had before, is it?”
👀 Can art ever please The Donald?
Art might be subjective, but Trump’s opinion clearly carries weight — at least in Colorado’s Capitol halls. Whether the new version will finally silence the critics (or the man himself) remains to be seen.
