Donald Trump has finally admitted what most of us already suspected – that his bold claim to end the Ukraine war in just 24 hours was never meant to be taken seriously.
The former president – and current Oval Office resident – made the confession during a press conference this week, five months after returning to power.
🕰️ A promise that aged like milk
During the 2024 campaign, Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity he was “100% sure” he could stop the war within a day. But five months into his presidency, that promise looks increasingly farcical.
Asked about it by Austrian journalist Johannes Petrov, Trump replied: “Of course I said that sarcastically.”
Petrov followed up, noting: “You’ve been in office for five months and five days. Why haven’t you been able to end the war?”
🎯 Blame game begins
Trump dodged the heat by blaming both sides of the conflict.
“Putin has been more difficult,” he said, before pivoting to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy: “Frankly, I had some problems with Zelenskyy – you may have read about them.”
He added: “It’s been more difficult than other wars,” casually listing conflicts he claims to have ended more easily.
😂 Cue the mockery
Trump’s revelation sparked a tidal wave of online mockery.
Critics slammed his “sarcastic” backtracking and mocked the idea that ending a major European war could ever have been done on a whim – especially with nuclear powers involved.
And yes, social media had jokes. So many jokes.
