Ian Hislop vs Elon Musk: A takedown for the ages

“We should have got on to him early on”

Ian Hislop, the razor-sharp satirist and Private Eye editor, didn’t hold back when discussing Elon Musk’s antics during a chat with Andrew Marr. Reflecting on the Tesla tycoon’s recent social media meltdown, Hislop said, “We should have got on to him early on.”

And, oh, what a meltdown it’s been.

Musk’s Latest Twitter Tantrum

Elon Musk kicked off the year with a plea for “more positive” content on X (formerly Twitter). Noble, right? Well, that quickly spiraled into name-calling and wild accusations.

First up, he branded safeguarding minister Jess Phillips a “witch” and accused her of supporting “genocidal rape abusers.” Then, for the pièce de résistance, he accused Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer of being “deeply complicit in mass rapes in exchange for votes.” Subtle, Elon.

Hislop’s Verdict

Speaking to Marr on LBC, Hislop reminded everyone that Musk’s penchant for controversy is nothing new. He pointed to the time Musk famously called a British caver—who had heroically helped rescue trapped Thai schoolboys—a “pedo guy.” Yep, that really happened.

For Hislop, the writing’s been on the wall for years. Musk’s erratic behavior, he argued, isn’t just a quirk; it’s a pattern.

A Masterclass in Understatement

As usual, Hislop’s takedown was equal parts scathing and hilarious. His wit cut through the noise, offering a reminder that sometimes the emperor really does have no clothes—or in Musk’s case, no social filter.

While Musk’s defenders might claim he’s a misunderstood genius, Hislop’s sharp critique paints a different picture: one of a billionaire whose Twitter fingers are as reckless as his rockets.
