Reform UK is looking more fractured by the day, as another online fallout has been highlighted.
Black hole
It comes as Nigel Farage has been accused of leaving a multibillion-pound black hole at the heart of his party’s spending plans after unveiling a series of expensive policy pledges to be paid for by cutting nonexistent items of government spending.
The Reform UK leader laid out a series of economic promises at a speech on designed to take advantage of disquiet among Labour voters at the government’s policies on taxes and benefits.
But while Farage promised up to £80bn worth of new spending he did not explain exactly how they could be paid for.
Helen Miller, the deputy director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said: “The risk is that we hear much more about sizeable giveaways on tax and benefits while getting nothing like the same amount of specificity about the big cuts to spending on public services that would be needed for the plan to be implementable.”
Reform-Land
So what is going on in Reform-Land?
It started with Sophie Corcoran’s comment about scrapping the two-child benefit cap writing: “There are a lot of true conservatives in reform who are opposed to the two child cap. Is reform really an alternative to the conservatives if it pushes for labour like policies? Would I vote for a party that expands the welfare state and doesn’t advocate for fiscal responsibility and a small state. Probably not, it’s why I no longer wanted to vote conservative because they didn’t deliver on that message – but it seems reform aren’t either.”
Isabel Oakeshott responded with: “There’s a cap on how many times you can switch party without looking a moron. You exceeded it a while back.”
In response, Sophie Corcoran wrote: “haven’t switched parties you snide bitch. It is a policy that many people in reform would be against because it makes no fucking sense But you wouldn’t know that as you are an unprincipled cow who stabs everyone in the back you know Look in the mirror!”
She then added: “Apologies for the language but this woman is constantly rude, condescending and disrespectful to everyone. People tip toe around her like she’s a princess – but someone has to tell her f*ck off once in a while.”
X account Jim Cognito wrote: “All going well in Reform-Land.”
Whatever you think of Rupert Lowe, this was an amusing reply. He wrote: “Better tell that to your chief whip,” referring to Lee Anderson.
