Laurence Fox has been on X, as ever, and wading through the huge amount of comments, one stood out even for him.

It began with Zarah Sultana’s comments about Reform and Nigel Farage.

Sultana shared this post (below) urging people to protest outside a major rally the insurgent party is holding in Birmingham on March 28.

She wrote: “We stand for solutions, not scapegoats. We’re against billionaires bankrolling division, against politicians propping up a system rigged against us, and for a future rooted in working-class unity, solidarity and justice. Join the fightback!”

We stand for solutions, not scapegoats.

We’re against billionaires bankrolling division, against politicians propping up a system rigged against us, and for a future rooted in working-class unity, solidarity and justice.

Join the fightback!✊🏽

The Coventry South MP then wrote: “AS a born-and-bred Brummie whose parents suffered the violent consequences of far-right politics, I speak for many in this proud, multicultural city when I say we reject the politics of hatred and division.

“In my view, based on the comments they have made publicly about Muslims and migrants, Reform UK is comparable to the National Front and the BNP.”

Lee Anderson, shared a picture of Reform members and said: “meet the future.”

She replied with: “The future? It looks like the cast of Cocoon.”

She then shared some of the abuse she received on a daily basis.

And so it goes on…

Farage

In response to Sultana’s request for people to rally as the Reform event, Farage told GB News: “I think it’s disgraceful and frankly I think it’s almost incitement. What she said about me and about our people is very close to incitement.

“And clearly what she’s trying to do is she’s trying to get a crowd of protesters, many of whom may not behave themselves, to turn up on March 28 when we’re going to be holding the biggest political rally seen in the UK for many decades.

“If you believe in free speech, even if you disagree with what Farage says and Reform stand for, an attempt to stop the event from going ahead I think is an absolute democratic disgrace.

“This is not the way that any elected MP should behave. And I would like to see Keir Starmer getting tough with backbenchers who behave in this appalling way.

“Everyone knows that Reform is non-sectarian, non-racist, we’re open absolutely to everybody.

“It’s just that we’re patriotic, we believe in controlling our borders, and putting the interest of the British people first.

“That’s what we stand for, you can come and argue against me and tell me I’m wrong, fine, that’s democratic debate. But to try and get people to come along and close down our conference is disgraceful.”

Laurence Fox

Mr Fox spotted the post and wrote: “Make MP’s British Again.”

Reactions

As you would expect, this was met with a lot of push back on-line.

1.

Why do people expect Zarah Sultana to play nice when they spout cruel nonsense like this? Zarah was born and raised in Birmingham, Laurence. She is British. https://t.co/nCRnY3lWqv

I support @zarahsultana 100% she’s a principled and highly effective MP. She’s also more British than odious fascists like you.

6.

Do you mean you want posh white male MPs who don't care about the majority in this country? Nah, we're good. We'll stick to principled and brave politicians like Zarah – they're the future. Your heroes are the past. Thank god.
Zarah is more powerful and loved than you'll ever be.
