Liz Truss has sparked a wave of mockery online after taking a swipe at Keir Starmer’s future in No.10 – despite holding the record for the shortest stint as prime minister in British history.
💬 Truss Throws Shade – Twitter Fires Back
Truss, who lasted just 49 days as PM, responded to Starmer’s recent pledge to cut net migration by the end of the decade. She tweeted: “He’ll be out of office by then.”
But it didn’t take long for Twitter users to pile in, reminding her that Starmer has already managed 311 days in office – more than six times longer than her own chaotic spell in Downing Street.
One user quipped: “Irony can never recover from this.” Another added: “Liz, you set the record for a political speedrun – maybe sit this one out?”
🗓️ Truss’s Record-Breaking Crash
Truss was forced out by her own MPs in October 2022, just seven weeks after moving into No.10. Her disastrous mini-budget, featuring £45bn in unfunded tax cuts, sent the pound into freefall and the markets into meltdown.
She then lost her seat in last July’s general election, watching her 26,195 majority evaporate as Labour’s Terry Jermy claimed victory. This made her the first former prime minister in nearly 90 years to lose their seat in Parliament – a particularly brutal blow on a night filled with Conservative losses.
😅 Internet Never Forgets
Naturally, social media didn’t let her off lightly. Memes, gifs, and jokes flooded Twitter, with many users poking fun at Truss’s brief tenure.
