Would you vote Labour again?

It is a question a lot of regular Labour voters must have been asking themselves since Starmer came into power and has seemingly done everything he can to alienate loyal supporters.

Yesterday’s spring statement by Chancellor Rachel Reeves made further cuts to welfare benefits and government departments.

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has assessed that changes to benefits will save £3.4bn in 2029/30 rather than the £5bn claimed by ministers.

As part of her Spring Statement, Rachel Reeves revealed the OBR has downgraded the growth forecast for this year from 2% to 1%

Welfare will be cut, with changes to Pip and universal credit confirmed, along with £500 million of extra cuts to incapacity benefit

Defence spending will increase to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, paid for by a cut in overseas aid. It will then rise to 3% in the next parliament

Public spending has been tightened, with departmental budgets going down from a 1.3% increase above inflation to 1.2%. It’s not as much of a decrease as had been expected, but the OBR say it will mean “significant pressures” on departments

In response, Michael Rosen wrote: “I voted Labour in the last election. So I voted for a govt that has supported the mass murder of the people of Gaza and the welfare cuts of the people of Britain. I got something wrong, didn’t I?”

In your defence I nearly voted Labour, it was close. I’m so glad that I voted @TheGreenParty instead, @UKLabour remind me of diarrhoea, no substance & a rancid stench. From genocide to discrimination against peaceful protesters & the vulnerable, they’re sadly demonstrably evil!

Oh Mr Rosen, If it’s a tiny crumb of comfort I too feel bitterly betrayed. You like me thought we were doing the right thing, unfortunately it was not the Labour Party we remember. Question is where do our votes go next time?
