Reform UK leader Nigel Farage proudly announced last November that he had “bought a house in Clacton,” claiming to have “exchanged contracts” on a substantial detached property in the Essex seaside constituency. The move was intended to silence critics who say he spends too little time in Clacton-on-Sea. However, land registry records reveal the property is registered solely in the name of his long-time partner, Laure Ferrari.
📜 Stamp-duty loophole or security measure?
When pressed by The Guardian, Farage offered two explanations:
“Whether I say ‘I’ or ‘we’ is pretty irrelevant. Laure bought the house; it is her asset. The main reason my name does not appear is for security reasons.”
He also declined to confirm whether Ferrari’s purchase structure helped avoid the additional 5% stamp duty surcharge that applies to buyers with multiple UK properties—Farage already owns homes in Kent, Surrey, and property-holding companies that cover two more houses.
🌴 The MP who’s rarely at home
Farage’s Clacton residence was meant to prove his commitment. Yet since his July election, he’s spent at least nine trips abroad—often in the US and now in France for what he calls his “first overseas break for three years” (aside from I’m a Celebrity). He insists he remains active, “writing articles and taking calls about fundraising for Reform UK.”

Clacton’s MP also tops the outside-earnings chart. His 800+ hours of extra employment include:
- Sky News Australia commentator (£25,000 AUD)
- Gold bullion advertising (£280,000)
- Daily Telegraph columnist (£4,000/month)
- GB News presenter (£330,000+ since July)
- Cameo videos (£125,000)
He is closing in on £900,000 in total outside income this year.
