One’s a chaos-loving president, the other’s a conspiracy-pushing media darling – and until now, they’ve mostly sung from the same hymn sheet.
But tensions are flaring between Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson after the former Fox News host accused Trump of betraying his “America First” mantra by backing Israel’s recent strikes on Iran.
Carlson claims Trump is “complicit” in an act of war. Trump’s reply? “I invented America First, so I get to decide what it means.”
💥 Tucker says Trump abandoned ‘America First’
In his latest newsletter, Carlson hit out at Trump for bragging about arming Israel, writing:
“They aided Israel in carrying them out. Politicians purporting to be America First can’t now credibly turn around and say they had nothing to do with it.”
Carlson went on to claim Trump’s support of Israel placed the US at the heart of last week’s attacks – and directly accused him of being “complicit.”
It’s a sharp turn from Carlson, who has often acted as a staunch media ally of Trump – but it reflects growing discomfort among some of Trump’s nationalist supporters, who see US backing of Israel’s military operations as a contradiction of Trump’s isolationist brand.
🗯 Trump hits back: “I define America First”
In a fresh interview with The Atlantic, Trump gave a typically Trumpian response:
“I’m the one that developed America First. I think I’m the one that decides what it means.”
He doubled down, suggesting that real peace couldn’t happen while Iran pursues nuclear weapons.
“For those people who say they want peace — you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon,” Trump added.
Later that night, Trump took to Truth Social to deny any US role in the strike, writing:
“The US had nothing to do with the attack on Iran tonight… If we are attacked in any way, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before.”
Still, he ended with a sprinkle of classic Trump bravado:
“We can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!”
🤝 Allies turning on Trump?
This isn’t just a personal spat — it’s a crack in Trump’s once-loyal base. Carlson’s attack taps into a broader debate: can you preach “America First” while cheering on foreign military action?
With Trump facing heat from both the anti-war right and the pro-Israel hawks, his tightrope walk on foreign policy just got wobblier.
