Gearóid Kelly’s self-own just keeps getting better every time you watch it
There’s never really a bad time to revisit one of the greatest public shutdowns of far-right bigotry ever caught on camera – and these two Irish lads deserve every gold star going.
In case you’ve missed it, the man on the receiving end was none other than Gearóid Kelly – an Irish YouTuber who describes himself as a citizen journalist. Think “Tommy Robinson with a brogue,” but swap out football chants for cherry-picked Bible verses and TikTok rambling.
🎥 The clip that won the internet (again)
In 2024, Kelly posted a video that was supposed to showcase people agreeing with his anti-immigration views.
Instead, what he filmed was two Irish men calmly and completely shredding his arguments in public – all while he stood there awkwardly trying to justify his racist worldview.
Rather than support his views, the men countered every one of his points with facts, empathy, and a firm grip on reality. And instead of getting a “gotcha” moment, Kelly got a masterclass in how not to conduct street interviews.
🤯 A self-own for the ages
It’s almost impressive that Kelly posted the video himself. You’d think after being so thoroughly outclassed, he’d quietly delete it and pretend it never happened.
But nope – the video is still out there, acting as a time capsule of what happens when bigots go looking for validation and find nothing but solid resistance instead.
💬 Internet reacts: “Gold stars all round”
Social media users were quick to celebrate the two Irish legends, with one user calling it:
“One of the most satisfying takedowns I’ve ever seen.”
Another wrote:
“That man stood there expecting people to parrot his hate – and got schooled instead.”
And yes, before anyone brings it up: Japan doesn’t automatically grant citizenship to children of non-Japanese parents born there. But that doesn’t exactly help Gearóid’s argument either.
