In a recent door-to-door canvassing attempt in Runcorn, Labour candidate Karen Shore suffered an awkward setback when a constituent slammed the door in her face. Shore is standing for Labour in the by-election prompted by the resignation of former MP Mike Amesbury.
Door Slammed and a Green Vote in the Air
With only two days left until polling day, Shore’s team is working hard to secure votes and hold off the competition, including the rising threat of Reform UK. However, the interaction quickly soured when a constituent made it clear she wouldn’t be supporting Labour.
In the now-viral clip shared by ITV News, Shore and a colleague introduce themselves, only to be met with the pointed response: “You’ve got no chance of me giving you my vote.” The woman further explained that she “can’t stand” Labour leader Keir Starmer and wouldn’t vote for him. Instead, she’s “going Green.”
“You got no chance of getting my vote – if it was for Zarah Sultana then happily. I’m voting Green instead”
A Sign of Tension as Voting Day Looms
Shore, alongside the other candidates—Sean Houlston (Conservative), Paul Duffy (Lib Dem), Chris Copeman (Green), and Sarah Pochin (Reform)—now faces a challenging final push as voting day approaches.
With tensions running high, will this awkward exchange have an impact on Labour’s chances? Only time will tell.
