Nigel Farage’s fantasy economics just got publicly annihilated in the House of Commons — and even his own face couldn’t hide the burn.
During a lively Prime Minister’s Questions session, Labour MP Adam Thompson took a savage swipe at the Reform UK leader over his completely debunked claim that scrapping “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) schemes would save taxpayers £7 billion a year.
🧮 Farage’s sums just don’t add up
Thompson asked:
“Can I ask what this government is doing to improve people’s maths skills after they have left school?”
Then came the punchline:
“I came across an awful case the other day – a 61-year-old man who believed he’d counted up to £7 billion of government spending when there was really only £27 million.”
Cue laughter from Labour MPs as Thompson delivered the knockout:
“What can we do for people like the leader of Reform UK, who evidently can’t add up?”
The joke landed hard, with MPs shouting “more!” across the benches while Farage sat stony-faced on the opposite side.
📉 The real cost of DEI schemes? Not even close
Farage had claimed the government could claw back a massive £7 billion by axing DEI initiatives. In reality? The actual amount spent by the civil service in 2022/23 was a mere £27.1 million.
That’s not a rounding error – that’s an entire galaxy away from the truth.
Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner piled on too, saying:
“Reform’s sums simply don’t add up.”
