Lee Anderson, one of the Reform Party’s five MPs, faced a challenging moment at the party’s national conference in Wales this week. Known for his outspoken views, Anderson took aim at the Welsh NHS. But when a local journalist pressed him for specifics, the MP seemed caught off-guard.

NHS Cost-Cutting Confusion

The Reform Party, which is gearing up for the 2026 Senedd elections, hopes to make significant gains in Wales after its recent successes in the UK General Election. Anderson, who defected from the Conservatives and secured re-election in Ashfield, has been a prominent voice for the party. Yet, his week has been a difficult one.

After a recent confrontation with a Parliamentary security officer, Anderson had to apologise in the House of Commons for telling the staff member to ‘f*** off’. But the real discomfort came during an interview with journalist Will Hayward, who questioned Anderson on his NHS reform plans.

Journalist’s Questions Leave Anderson Floundering

When asked about NHS waiting times, Anderson responded: “I don’t know how long it will take to sort out NHS waiting lists… do you know?” He then accused the reporter of “not paying attention” and “trying to catch [him] out.” Anderson went on to claim the NHS could be run better under a Reform government, though he provided few details.

He did suggest that cutting waste, improving efficiency, and using the private sector could help reduce waiting lists. However, when asked about the cost of these changes, Anderson admitted, “I’ve got no idea how much this will cost. It’ll be millions of millions of pounds.”
