Angela Rayner had the Commons in stitches after landing a savage blow on Kemi Badenoch — and it all came down to her not showing up.
🧍♀️ ‘She’s better when she’s not here!’
With Keir Starmer away at the NATO summit, Rayner stepped in for PMQs and used the opportunity to fire a few well-aimed shots at the Conservative leader.
Badenoch, who still hasn’t picked a permanent deputy, has been handing the PMQs baton to various Tory frontbenchers. This week it was Mel Stride. Last week? Chris Philp. Next week? Who knows.
But according to Rayner, that revolving door of Tory stand-ins is actually a step up.
“She already has in the last two weeks by not turning up!”
Cue laughter across the chamber — and not just from the Labour benches.
🎯 Rayner takes aim at Tory chaos
The zinger came in response to a question from Conservative MP Andrew Snowden, who accused the government of failing on every front — before pivoting to attack Starmer and ask if Rayner would tell him to quit.
Rayner, calm and unbothered, took it in her stride:
“Maybe he wants a go next week because it’s been quite the carousel.”
She then threw in a cheeky dig at Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, who many suspect has his eye on the top job:
“I’m just wondering when they’re going to give the shadow justice secretary a go.”
One punchline after another — and all landed flawlessly.
