England fans in Barcelona had a peculiar outburst at Saturday’s World Cup qualifier. Around 7,000 supporters transformed KC & The Sunshine Band’s “Give It Up” into a not-so-pleasant tune about Keir Starmer, inserting a four-letter insult mid-chorus.
😂 Kyle’s easy laugh
On Sunday’s Sky News, presenter Trevor Phillips played the clip to Science Secretary Peter Kyle. “Isn’t it early for that level of unpopularity?” Phillips asked. Kyle just grinned. “I’m not a football follower,” he said, “but it’s football chanting. Part of the spirit of the game.”
❌ Tuchel says no, Kyle says yes
England manager Thomas Tuchel condemned the chant as “not acceptable.” Phillips pressed: “Isn’t that a disturbing signal?” Kyle countered, “We’ve made tough calls since coming in. You don’t start from zero.” The minister insisted upcoming spending plans will show how Labour cares for “children’s future and the economy.”
🎉 Optimism for next match
Kyle quipped, “Next England game? I’m sure they’ll be chanting nice things about us too.” Maybe a “We love you, Keir” refrain? Stranger things have happened in the terraces.

📉 Unfavourable polls
Labour slipped to 21% in YouGov’s latest survey—their lowest since 2019. Starmer’s favourability among his own voters plummeted from 62% to 45% in a month, marking his first negative net rating among Labour supporters. No wonder fans got creative.
