Donald Trump has once again baffled the internet – this time for wondering aloud why people are so down on Russia… you know, despite the brutal invasion of Ukraine.
In a press conference on Thursday, Trump compared modern Russia to WWII allies, seeming genuinely confused by global hostility toward Putin’s regime.
“Russia fought with us in WWII and everybody hates them. And Germany and Japan, they’re fine. Someday somebody will explain that…”
Yes, that’s a real quote. He said something rather odd about Putin..
🪖 Trump: “We were your ally. Now everybody hates Russia.”
The former president went on to reference a chat with Emmanuel Macron about the end of WWII, and a supposed quote from Vladimir Putin:
“We were your ally. Now everybody hates Russia.”
It’s worth noting Trump failed to mention why Russia is being sanctioned, condemned, and investigated for war crimes. For example:
- The invasion and ongoing occupation of Ukraine
- Civilian massacres and mass displacement
- Election interference, cyberattacks, and anti-democratic disinformation
Oh, and let’s not forget the Cold War.
😬 What about that ‘deal in 24 hours’?
Despite promising to end the Ukraine war “within 24 hours” of retaking office, Trump has done nothing to hold Putin accountable.
Instead, he’s floated vague peace plans that appear to hand Ukraine’s land to Russia in exchange for, well, vibes.
Earlier this year, he said:
“If I think I’m close to getting a deal, I don’t want to screw it up by doing that [sanctioning Russia].”
That was in May.
💥 The internet wasn’t having it
