Jake Paul triumphed over Mike Tyson in a boxing ring on Friday night, winning by unanimous decision in a widely criticised bout. Tyson, 58, showed signs of his age and past health struggles, leaving viewers questioning the integrity of the fight.

BREAKING: Jake Paul and Mike Tyson suspended after gruelling eight-round fight

Tyson’s Health Struggles Weighed on the Match

Tyson, a former world champion and one of the most feared heavyweights in boxing history, has faced numerous health issues in recent years. His troubles include long-term drug and alcohol abuse, a recent bleeding stomach ulcer, and acute sciatica. Two years ago, Tyson struggled to move and had to be pushed in a wheelchair. Despite some improvement, he appeared frail and in discomfort as he faced Paul in the ring.

The match, reduced to just eight two-minute rounds, was a stark contrast to Tyson’s prime years. Tyson was unable to land significant blows, and his movement was sluggish, which ultimately led to Paul’s easy victory by scores of 79-73 and 80-72 from the judges.

The Fight Lacked Real Competition

From the moment the fight began, it was clear that Tyson, now far removed from his dominant prime, was not capable of mounting a serious challenge. Although Tyson showed some early intent, including a glancing blow to Paul’s head, his skills and agility were long gone. Paul, on the other hand, appeared largely untroubled, landing punches with relative ease as Tyson struggled to close the distance.

By the later rounds, the crowd began to grow restless, as the fight felt more like an exhibition than a genuine contest. Fans, once eager to see Tyson in action, grew bored and even started booing. Tyson’s deteriorating physical state left little room for hope that he could summon any of the fearsome qualities that once made him a legend.

A Muted Atmosphere

The atmosphere at AT&T Stadium was initially filled with excitement, especially when Tyson made his entrance, clad in his old “Iron Mike” jacket. But that initial roar soon faded as Tyson’s slow movements and clear physical limitations became apparent. In contrast, Jake Paul’s arrival was met with a much more muted response.

The fight, which many had hoped would be a thrilling encounter, ultimately felt flat. Tyson, now a shadow of his former self, was outclassed by Paul, who cruised to a victory with little effort. The crowd, once enthusiastic, soon began to trickle out before the scorecards were read, signalling their disappointment.

Tyson’s Reflections on Legacy

Tyson’s feelings about the fight were made clear in an interview before the match. Asked about his legacy, Tyson dismissed the concept, stating, “I don’t believe in the word ‘legacy’. Legacy means absolutely nothing to me. I’m just passing through.” His blunt words reflected his disillusionment with both the fight and his place in history.

Tyson’s somber view of his career contrasted sharply with the manufactured hype surrounding his fight with Paul. The match, often described as a “mismatch”, seemed more like a spectacle than a true sporting event. For many, the real concern was Tyson’s health and well-being, as he took punches that few expected him to withstand.

A Sad End to a Storied Career

As Tyson walked out of the arena, his defeat felt more like an unfortunate end to a proud career rather than a legitimate contest. The spectacle of the match, overshadowed by Tyson’s declining health, left a bitter aftertaste. For many, the night’s events were a reminder that Father Time waits for no one.
