Daily Mail’s apocalyptic vision of ‘Keir’s Britain’ – reactions to nonsensical headline

'There’s a word for this, and I’m not sure it’s “journalism.”'

The Daily Mail is trying to get people to look at someone else while Rome burns. Today, it was predicting ‘Keir’s Britain.’

The front page also had a big pic of Nadine Dorries and her column blaming ‘sinister forces’ for not getting her a peerage.

She concludes her piece with: “I was born into poverty and clawed my way out of it to build a new life for me and my family, and then carved out a role in public service. A seat in the Lords was recognition of that — and a means of continuing to give back to society.

“I’m not going to lie. I believe sinister forces conspired against me and have left me heartbroken — but that emotion gives me all the strength I need to keep on fighting.”

Perhaps sometimes one must look in the mirror to realise one’s failings, a Buddhist monk probably once said.

Keir’s Britain

But the main story was a prediction of how awful the UK is when (ok if…) Labour win the next election.

Starmer might not be your cup of tea, but this article should still leave you shaking your head in disbelief.

They write: “Labour was accused last night of abandoning the ‘law-abiding majority’ by opposing curbs on eco-zealots and Channel migrants.

“Just Stop Oil caused yet more traffic havoc with a go-slow protest in central London on Monday.

“However Sir Keir Starmer’s MPs voted against moves to bolster police powers to break up the disruptive demos.

A source close to Mrs Braverman said: ‘Sir Keir Starmer and his weak Labour Party are in the hands of Just Stop Oil and seemingly only interested in doing their bidding. In public they talk tough and claim to support hard-working British people but in backroom deals they’ve taken piles of cash from those bankrolling the eco-zealots.

‘By attempting to block Conservative measures to tackle disruptive protests and to stop the small boats, Sir Keir shows his true colours.’

It is so unhinged it makes David cameron’s famous tweet almost quaint by comparison.

Reactions

A lot of people pointed out that Labour are not in power and have not been for quite a while….

How can it be a “vision of Keir’s Britain” when it’s happening now, after 13 of Conservative government? pic.twitter.com/RH8W85xpDs

So it turns out that everything that's gone wrong in the last 13 years is the fault of a future government that doesn't yet exist, rather than the current one which does pic.twitter.com/sAXtgjURZq
