A Daily Mail Esther Mcvey front page was quite something, for a Monday morning, a few days before Xmas.

The ‘Minister for common sense’ has decided to ‘wage war on woke.’

Nothing like more ‘war’ to really get you in that festive mood.

It seems she will be taking on the waste and wokery that is ‘plaguing the public sector.

“Writing exclusively in the Daily Mail, she vows a crusade against public cash being wasted on the likes of equality consultants while families are being forced to tighten their belts.

“‘As we approach 2024, I believe one of the Government’s New Year resolutions should be to ensure all parts of the public sector embrace common sense instead of political correctness,’ Ms McVey says.”

This is what AI tells us about woke…

The term “woke” originated as African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and is the past tense of “wake.” In recent years, however, it has taken on a new meaning and is often used in a social and political context. The contemporary usage of “woke” describes a heightened awareness of social justice issues, particularly those related to race, gender, and other forms of inequality.

Being “woke” suggests being conscious of systemic injustices, advocating for social change, and being aware of one’s own privilege. The term is sometimes used in a positive sense to applaud individuals or groups who are actively working towards creating a more equitable and just society. However, it can also be used pejoratively to criticize perceived self-righteousness or excessive political correctness.

The concept of being “woke” has become a part of broader discussions about social activism, inclusivity, and awareness of societal issues. It’s worth noting that the term can be interpreted and used in various ways, and its meaning may evolve over time.
