Scapegoat time? Daily Mail’s front page sparks outrage

"A truly despicable front page."

Who is to blame for the state the UK is in right now? The government? Brexit? Big business not paying enough tax?

Well it seems the Daily Mail has decided it is the poor who don’t pay enough tax, here is the article if you want to read it, and that’s why we are in a mess.

It harks back to the attacks on single mums back in the 90s.

Is this actually the real problem at the moment or is the newspaper looking to divide and rule, creating scapegoats, as the real troublemakers get away with it?

Tufton Street

That is up to you to decide.

Here is a paragraph for you: For the first time, more than half of households – 36 million people – get more from the Government than they pay in tax, according to a study by Civitas. But this definition includes the amount individuals receive from ‘benefits in kind’, such as use of the NHS and state education.

Guess who Civitas are?

Another shady group working out of 55 Tufton Street who are also registered as a charity…

Lee Anderson MP was a fan, as you would expect…

Over half the households in Britain get more from the state than they pay in tax…while the top 10% of earners account for 53% of all income tax. We cannot have less than 50% of the population supporting the majority. It's just not fair. pic.twitter.com/jQVvrMELOw

This is one reaction to Lee…

When are you going to tell the pensioners in your constituency that they should stop freeloading because I'd like to be there to watch that?

Reactions

The front page has left a lot of people furious.

1.

55 Tufton Street have served up another blinder for the Daily Mail. Those poor rich people bled dry by the poorest and neediest amongst us.

A truly despicable front page. pic.twitter.com/gpAhdXHOT0

Reminder that the Daily Mail and its Billionaire owner Lord Rothermere a French Non-Dom pay £0 tax EVERY SINGLE YEAR. pic.twitter.com/Tnbb0i3JPN

3.

"Top 10% of earners pay half of tax" shrieks the Daily Mail.

But the richest 1% get TWO THIRDS of new wealth. So the top 10% still aren't paying anything like their fair share of tax.

Lack of context once again leaves Mail readers ignorant, misled, and angry at the wrong thing. pic.twitter.com/g0wGoUfBPb

What the Daily Mail's front page doesn't mention is that their figure of people getting "something for nothing" includes around 11 million pensioners, according to the very report their story is based on. pic.twitter.com/GVEcp5QfFt

Unsurprisingly the report quoted by the Daily Mail is from Civitas which is based at 55 Tufton Street.

6.

The front page of Daily Mail today claiming the average Brit gets more off the state than what they pay in tax. This is quite blatant, clear, and nasty gaslighting from Tories, who want you to stop talking about THEIR tax affairs. We're NOT all the same. They're corrupt.

7.

The Daily Mail front page — drawn on from a report by opaquely-funded Tufton Street think tank Civitas — does not tell you that the top 10% of earners have 53% of the wealth. The story is not ‘unfairness’ to those at the top but the ongoing rat fucking of those at the bottom. pic.twitter.com/G8VU9PIebe

Are you a pensioner? Do you read the Daily Mail? You do know they're talking about you, don't you? https://t.co/KgV8KwXR55
