London is an expensive place to live, that goes without saying. However, one man has taken a bizarre approach to creating a dwelling for himself.

Harrison Marshall, an artist and co-founder of Caukin Studio, moved into his converted skip in Bermondsey, south-east London, in January and will aim to live in it for a year.

Let’s see how that goes!

Marshall has described the move as a “statement” in the face of the “crazy” cost of living in the capital.

The 28-year-old artist said the move is “not intended to be a solution to the rising cost of living” but is instead intended to get people talking about cost-of-living crisis in London and one assumes outside of the capital.

Also Southwark News reports that the best thing about it is the neighbours. “They are probably the best things about this whole project,” the artist said.

He even posted leaflets through their doors and had a ‘skip-warming party’ to introduce himself and the new addition to the local area.

“About 20-25 people turned up and it was really nice. They’re all super supportive – the last people didn’t leave till gone midnight.

“Even in the last week, people have seen me doing stuff in the garden and gone to get their tools and come to help out and people around have filled up my hot water bottle.”
