Has Netflix cancelled the password sharing crackdown?

Netflix’s contentious bid to prevent users from sharing their passwords has hit a speed bump in the road as they face huge backlash.

The streamer outlined strategies to stop consumers from using someone else’s account to access its service for free earlier this week.

Some irate consumers who claimed Netflix was being oppressive to subscribers criticised the regulations, which included a requirement that users must verify the devices they stream on at least once every 31 days.

Just days after they first appeared online, Netflix withdrew the rules from its website in the UK and abroad due to the outcry. The streamer stated that the actions were accidentally posted and that it will alert users of any significant updates before to their implementation.

“For a brief time yesterday, a help center article containing information that is only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica and Peru went live in other countries,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “We have since updated it.”

Netflix recently announced that beginning in late March, it will begin enforcing its anti-password sharing policies in the UK.
