BBC has officially greenlit a second season of the critically acclaimed period drama, “Ten Pound Poms,” set to delve deeper into the post-migration lives of the characters who sought a new beginning in Australia during the 1950s. The series, initially launched in May 2023, quickly captured the hearts of viewers, becoming one of the UK’s biggest dramas last year, boasting an impressive 28-day figure of 7.7 million viewers.

The renewal comes as a testament to the show’s widespread success, with audiences eagerly anticipating the continuation of the captivating storyline. Michelle Keegan, who portrayed the resilient nurse Kate Thorne in the first season, is set to reprise her role, leading the ensemble cast into a new chapter of their Australian adventure.

Created and written by Danny Brocklehurst, known for his work on “Fool Me Once,” the upcoming season will pick up in 1957, exploring the challenges and triumphs faced by Kate Thorne and the Roberts family (led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown) as they strive to carve out a promising future in their adopted homeland.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, Danny Brocklehurst, who serves as the writer, creator, and executive producer, stated, “The positive viewer response to Ten Pound Poms was a true delight. We tapped into a little-known part of our recent history and told stories which reflected the realities of the real Poms that made the trip.”

Brocklehurst also expressed excitement about collaborating once again with the BBC, Stan, and Eleven to continue the characters’ captivating journey down under. He highlighted the importance of shedding light on this lesser-known aspect of history.

The collaboration between Brocklehurst and Michelle Keegan extends beyond “Ten Pound Poms,” as the duo recently worked together on Netflix’s Harlan Coben crime thriller “Fool Me Once” and the popular series “Brassic.”

Lindsay Salt, the director of BBC Drama, expressed her delight in bringing the show back for a second season, saying, “We’re delighted to take BBC viewers back to Australia for more sunshine with Ten Pound Poms series two.” With Michelle Keegan, Faye Marsay, and Warren Brown leading the cast, Salt expressed anticipation for the exploration of new characters and storylines in the upcoming season.

As fans eagerly await the return of “Ten Pound Poms,” the second season promises to deliver more riveting tales of hope, resilience, and the pursuit of a better life down under.
