The reboot of Sylvester Stallone’s action classic Cliffhanger is now in production, with a refreshed cast and creative direction. Stallone, who starred in the original film, will not appear in the new version, originally announced nearly 18 months ago.

New Cast and Crew for Cliffhanger Reboot

Lily James, known for Pam & Tommy and The Iron Claw, has taken on the lead role. She will be joined by Pierce Brosnan, with Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, Carry-On) directing. The reboot is a collaboration between Rocket Science, Thank You Pictures, and Supernix.

Filming is underway in Austria, featuring a talented supporting cast. Joining James and Brosnan are Nell Tiger Free (Servant), Franz Rogowski (Passages), Shubham Saraf (Shantaram), Assaad Bouab (Franklin), Suzy Bemba (Poor Things), and Bruno Gouery (Emily in Paris).

A Father-Daughter Action Thriller

Based on a story by Ana Lily Amirpour, the new Cliffhanger takes a fresh approach, combining thrilling action with a father-daughter storyline. Brosnan plays Ray Cooper, a seasoned mountaineer who runs a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with his daughter, Sydney. When kidnappers target them during a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, Ray’s other daughter, Naomi (played by James), must confront her own fears to save her family.

Director Praises James’ Dedication

Director Jaume Collet-Serra has praised James for her commitment to the role, revealing that she underwent intense training and learned to climb for the film. “Lily has gone above and beyond, allowing us to capture shots we wouldn’t have achieved otherwise,” he said. The movie, shot on location in the Dolomites with large-format cameras, promises to deliver a thrilling, immersive experience for audiences.
