Campbell’s return comes after her absence in “Scream 6” due to a salary dispute. However, she expressed gratitude for being approached in a respectful manner for the upcoming sequel. “I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” she added.

Joining Campbell in the return to the franchise is Kevin Williamson, the creator and writer of “Scream,” who is set to direct “Scream 7.” Williamson, who wrote the first, second, and fourth films of the series, expressed his gratitude and excitement about directing the seventh installment. “I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire ‘Scream’ family,” he wrote on Instagram.

Guy Busick will take over the screenwriting duties for “Scream 7,” with James Vanderbilt stepping back from his previous involvement in the fifth and sixth films. Vanderbilt will continue to produce alongside William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment. Additionally, the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, responsible for directing and producing the previous two “Scream” films, will serve as executive producers.

Campbell’s return marks a significant development for the franchise, especially after the exits of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who starred in previous films. Barrera was dismissed from “Scream 7” last year due to controversial social media posts, while Ortega left the project to accommodate her filming schedule for Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
