In what promises to be a cinematic reunion to remember, renowned director Quentin Tarantino and acclaimed actor Brad Pitt are joining forces for the third time in Tarantino’s upcoming and final film, ‘The Movie Critic.’ While details about Pitt’s role remain shrouded in mystery, speculation abounds that he may take on the title character in this highly anticipated project.

Their previous collaboration in 2019’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ earned Pitt the coveted Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and prior to that, the duo collaborated on the critically acclaimed ‘Inglourious Basterds.’ With Sony Pictures likely to handle distribution, and Stacey Sher in the producer’s chair, industry insiders are already buzzing about the potential success of this cinematic venture, eyeing a release date in 2025.

Tarantino, known for his signature storytelling and unconventional narratives, has provided a glimpse into ‘The Movie Critic.’ Speaking at Cannes in May, where he oversaw a screening of ‘Rolling Thunder,’ Tarantino revealed that the film is set in California in 1977. The narrative centers around a real-life figure who, despite never achieving fame, wrote movie reviews for an adult-oriented publication.

The inspiration for the film harks back to Tarantino’s teenage years when he held a job loading adult magazines into vending machines. In a recent interview, the director reminisced, “All the other stuff was too skanky to read, but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page.” He particularly admired a snarky and intelligent second-string critic, setting the stage for a unique and intriguing storyline.

While the script has likely undergone revisions, drawing from Tarantino’s penchant for storytelling, there’s anticipation that the final product will captivate audiences much like the director’s previous works. Fans are eager to see if the film delves into the character of Cliff Booth, played by Pitt in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ who, in the novelization, revealed his passion for cinema.

As the project’s details continue to materialize, including distribution plans, the industry is abuzz with excitement. Reflecting on the success of ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ where Sony supported Tarantino’s artistic choices, including bypassing distribution in China and preserving a controversial Bruce Lee scene, expectations are high for another collaboration that pushes the boundaries of conventional filmmaking. Stay tuned for more updates on this eagerly awaited cinematic finale.
