You Season 5 trailer: Joe’s “happy ending” looks dead on arrival

Ready for Joe’s big goodbye? You Season 5 trailer says it’s about to get bloody.

Hello, Joe… and goodbye. Netflix has finally revealed the official trailer for the fifth and final season of You, promising a dramatic close to Penn Badgley’s tenure as the world’s most charming psychopath. Season 5 sees Joe Goldberg return to New York City—where his murderous saga all began—only now, he’s even more unhinged. And if the trailer is anything to go by, Joe’s blood-soaked quest for a happily-ever-after seems more unlikely than ever.

Back to Where It All Began

Joe’s New York City homecoming is a poetic full circle for a man who’s spent four seasons wreaking havoc on unsuspecting victims across state lines—and even in good old Blighty. Fans will recall Joe sipping tea in London while quietly (or not so quietly) dispatching anyone who stood in the way of his twisted fantasies. Now, with his “happily ever after” threatened, he’s back stateside to rekindle his dysfunctional relationship with the Big Apple.

But who’s on the hit list this time? Alongside Charlotte Ritchie, Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, and Griffin Matthews, Joe’s set to meet new—and potentially ill-fated—faces. Naturally, we can expect more depravity, as no one is safe from Joe’s slightly unhinged brand of romance.

A Glimpse of Season 4

In case you need a refresher:

  • Location: Joe hopped across the pond to become a suspiciously charismatic professor in London (which ended exactly as you’d imagine).
  • Major Twist: The billionaire Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie) turned out to be Joe’s most cunning companion yet, even helping him cover up some “unpleasant” issues from his past.
  • Survival Story: Marienne was one of the lucky ones who managed to evade Joe’s worst instincts. The question remains—could she be the one who finally trips him up?

What to Expect from Season 5

Netflix’s official logline teases Joe attempting to bask in his so-called blissful new life… until “ghosts of his past” (aren’t they always?) come knocking at his door. In typical Goldberg fashion, we can expect:

  1. A renewed sense of entitlement,
  2. A dash of moral gymnastics, and
  3. Plenty of suspicious new acquaintances who should really know better.

Will he finally meet his match—or is Joe’s final downfall as elusive as ever? We’ll find out soon enough.

Mark Your Calendars

  • Release Date: You Season 5 premieres on Netflix on 24 April 2025.
  • Binge Reminder: Seasons 1–4 are already waiting on Netflix if you fancy a recap of Joe’s “romantic” exploits.

With David Fincher-esque tension and that trademark Joe Goldberg voiceover, You has kept us horrifyingly hooked from the get-go. Now, as we approach the last chapter, the stakes have never been higher. In the meantime, watch your back—Joe is returning to his old stomping grounds, and your Netflix queue has never looked bloodier.
