Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag eyes epic remake—bigger than the original

While the project hasn’t officially been confirmed by Ubisoft, this rumour has been circulating for quite some time now.

Ubisoft’s rumoured remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has resurfaced, suggesting it could set sail earlier than expected.

A New Wave of Remakes

Ubisoft has already confirmed it’s working on several Assassin’s Creed remakes, but which instalments are actually on the list remains a mystery. The internet rumour mill, however, insists that Black Flag is top of the queue, and the whispers only seem to be getting louder.

Shadows Before Black Flag?

Insider Gaming previously reported that the (still unlaunched) Assassin’s Creed Shadows would release before the Black Flag remake. Given that Shadows itself has experienced two delays and is now aimed at March, Ubisoft appears to be juggling multiple plates. But hey—better a delayed pirate epic than a sub-par one, right?

More Than Just a Visual Upgrade

According to a recent MP1ST report, Black Flag won’t just get a fresh coat of paint. Ubisoft is allegedly overhauling mechanics and features, including combat and the wildlife ecosystem. So, we’re talking big changes, not just a “fancier textures and call it a day” approach.

The Scale Beyond the Original

It sounds like the developers are aiming for something that surpasses the scope of the 2013 release. If it’s true, that means bigger brawls, more diverse quests, and perhaps an upgraded parrot or two. In other words, it’s not a lazy cash-grab—there’s real ambition here.

When’s the Grand Voyage?

There’s talk of a possible November 2025 release date, or perhaps early 2026, depending on how quickly Ubisoft wants to empty our wallets. And while it’s probably wise for them not to overshadow the upcoming Shadows, fans are already eager to weigh anchor with Edward Kenway once again.

Summer Announcement?

MP1ST speculates we might see an official reveal at Ubisoft Forward this summer, paving the way for a quick turnaround and a release mere months later. Given Ubisoft’s track record with scheduling, your guess is as good as ours—but at least we know the pirate hype is real.
