Brexit hasn’t gone anywhere and another of former PM’s Boris Johnson’s promises has been called out.

It comes as Ministers are facing a clash with opposition and Tory MPs over their plans to scrap EU-era laws copied over to UK law after the UK left the EU.

Under government proposals, thousands of laws are due to expire automatically unless specifically kept or replaced.

Tory backbenchers are backing an attempt to give MPs a greater say over what is scrapped.

The bill would give ministers wide-ranging powers to get rid of EU laws, prompting criticism that changes in a wide could be made without proper scrutiny.

Craig Bennett of the Wildlife Trusts said the government was planning to get rid of regulations without a plan of how to replace them.

“Even a five-year-old could understand you should keep what you’ve got until you work out what to replace it with,” he told the BBC’s Today programme.

Johnson

According to a new book ‘Inside the Deal: How the EU got Brexit’ done, by Stefaan De Rynck, a close aide to the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier, Johnson made last ditch agreements in the protocol negotiations that have raised some eyebrows.

RTE News tweeted: “Boris Johnson agreed in the final hours of the protocol negotiations that there’d be customs declarations on goods exiting NI to Britain, despite the fact that 3 weeks later he told NI businesses there’d be “no forms, no checks” according to a new book.”

3.

When it was so obvious there would be checks, and the EU had repeated time and again that there would be checks, why did anyone believe a word that a proven liar like Johnson said?

5.

The only real agenda was to get it over the line before Christmas Eve so he could produce this, in my opinion.

It's only ever about the show with Johnson, never the substance. https://t.co/p12T1asv7F
